Kampar/Itik River Rapid Grade I-III, Perak State
This adventure has you fully suited up in a extra thick wet suit, personal floating device(PFD/life jacket), scuba booties, fins and a funky 'Speed Racer' helmet. In the river, you will ride on a plastic (polyutherane) riverboard with aluminium handles which will act as your armor against the rocks boulders as you zip down with the currents.
All participants undergo a thorough training on the riverboarding gear, control skills (flip over, turning and flipper movement), safety and basic lessons on river flow before you start kicking your way down to your first rapid. Instructor may choose to exclude you if you do not demonstrate sufficient skills in the training - this has happenned before.
"Fear mixed with adrenaline confuses your mind. Before you can react, the current sucks you into the whitewater, your grip tightens on the handles, your screams disappear into the rapids (swallowing a mouthful of fresh water!) and the waves slap you silly as your mind frantically races to remember your earlier lessons on handling the board. This scenario continues on battling your body weary till the very end!"
On occasions, participants were knocked off their boards then sucked and spat out by nature's wash machine. Hey, don't worry, there's always a rescue guide nearby to throw a rope!
What do I get to do?
Rip down fast rapids in a terrain that's ever changing. Its not as easy as you think - gets worse if during the wet season!
Water source estimated to be from Cameron Highlands.
I'm not a swimmer, can I do the activity?
Participants need to be confident in fast flowing water and must have some basic swimming abilities. There are no refunds if you back out during training or if the instructor deems you unfit for the sport.
