Whitewater rafting in Selangor River is one of the most popular adventures we offer. Selangor River is the most popular river for recreational whitewater rafting since the 90s. Located about 1 hour drive from Kuala Lumpur, this location continues to provide outdoor enthusiasts an extreme wild whitewater ride until present day.
The implementation of the Selangor Dam construction in the late 90s until 2003 to provide fresh water to Kuala Lumpur required the Temiar tribes living in the jungles by the river to relocate themselves as well as putting a halt to the river sports. Visitors to this area dwindled and so did the ecology and economic conditions in the area.
However, since 2005, whitewater rafting and kayaking in the area saw a revival. Visitors are now flocking back every weekend to visit Kuala Kubu Baru (KKB) town enroute to nature destinations such as Chilling Waterfall, Frasers Hill, Raub, or just to view the peaceful Selangor Dam.
THe town of KKB you visit today replaced another town which was washed away by floods from a broken dam in the late 19th century. The remnants of the old town(Ampang Pecah) is just a few minutes drive away. The main hub of KKB is an old tin mine town built with captivating colonial buildings and terrific greenery. It was old retail shops, small town eateries offering great tasting food and there is a small farmers market next to the bus station to wander around. There is a 18 hole golf course nearby too.
Best time to visit
This river is highly dependent on the water release from Selangor Dam. The release is decided by the resevoir authorities. We have no control or influence over the decision therefore it is all down to fate. The lead guide will only know the same morning of event date whether there is sufficient water to run. He will update participants in the morning.
IMPORTANT: If water levels are not suitable on event date, guide will lead you to Ulu Slim River approximately 1 hour drive away. If your group is the only group with less than 4 persons on event date, there are additional charges to be paid onsite. This is for additional offroad transfer costs for moving equipment and guides to the other river.
What happens if it rains heavily during the event?
A common question, and the answer is that we continue to raft! You are getting wet anyway.
What do I get to do?
Spend a great day out in nature with friends and/or other outdoor people. The fresh air and cold water to re-awaken the senses! Your rafting guides are mostly the indigenous Temiar so you will have a chance to interact with them.
Frasers Hill which is less than 1 hour drive away from KKB is a world renown destination for bird-watching besides a peacefull hill station. We organise birdwatching activities here and other destinations as well.

Getting here
By Car From Kuala Lumpur
Take old trunk road North to Ipoh or take the PLUS highway exiting at Rawang (map:www.plus.com.my). You will cut through Rawang town heading north towards Ipoh on the old highway. About 21km out of Rawang town a road sign will indicate a right turn to exit for KKB. You can prepare for this turn when you see a hilly Chinese Cemetary on the right side. This cemetery is located after a SHELL gas station. After right turn, follow the road to the end and you will reach a traffic light intersection. Make a left at the lights then first right, go up a hill into KKB town. The post office should be on the 1st or 2nd lane on the right. If you don't see it, just circle around the little town and you'll find it. Arrive early and have a hearty breakfast!
We can arrange private transfer for small and large groups.
By Bus
Pudu Bus Station has irregular buses coming to KKB. We are unable to provide you a schedule. Drivers may wait for passengers to fill up before disembarking. You may find more frequent buses to Rawang town before exchanging buses or commuter train to KKB.
By Commuter (Kommuter) Train
Check out www.ktmb.com.my for schedule and rates to Rawang or KKB. There is transit train in Rawang. Expect delays so catch earlier trains. Estimated travel time is 2 hours per way. Our guides will be able to pick you up and drop off at station at RM15 per pax (within KKB) and RM35 per person if required to go another river (due to low water in Selangor River). We do not have dedicated transfer vehicles therefore we have limited capacity. Large groups should find their own transport or we can arrange private transfer from Kuala Lumpur.
