Sukau is a tiny village along the lower Kinabatangan, popular for its availability of lodging, provision stores and wildlife river cruises. Despite the many travellers that passby to view wildlife, the village remains a quiet small village with wooden houses and few modern amenities. There will be little fanfare in this village to distract you from your wildlife viewing.
The award-winning Borneo Rainforest Lodge (BRL) is nestled in a magnificent setting alongside the Danum River flowing through Sabah's largest protected Lowland Rainforest - Danum Valley Conservation Area - 43,800 Hectares of pristine and undisturbed tropical flora and fauna in the eastern part of Sabah! This pristine rainforest is also home to more than 340 species Birds, 124 species of Mammals, 72 species of Reptiles, 56 species of Amphibians and a staggering 200 species of plants per hectare.
Visit the scientific haven, Danum Valley Field Centre (DVFC). DVFC is located west of Lahad Datu, Sabah's fourth largest town. It is located within Danum Valley Conservation Area which of comprises 43,800 hectares (438 sq km) of virgin forest located within the upper reaches of Sabah's second largest river, the Segama and its tributaries, making it part of the Ulu Segama Forest Reserve.
