Sukau is a tiny village along the lower Kinabatangan, popular for its availability of lodging, provision stores and wildlife river cruises. Despite the many travellers that passby to view wildlife, the village remains a quiet small village with wooden houses and few modern amenities. There will be little fanfare in this village to distract you from your wildlife viewing.
Mount Murud (2423m) is Sarawak's highest mountain and is also know as the Holy Mountain where many devout Christians amongst the local natives come to this beautiful mountain at least once a year to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. The Kelabit highlands is one of Sarawak's last unspoiled regions with beautiful flora and a cool refreshing climate. The journey from the lowlands to highlands will have you passing by green pastures of fruit orchards, paddy fields with buffaloes and other farmland animals and rustic wooden homes that's surrounded by virgin jungle. There are plenty opportunities to interact with the friendly natives, mainly Lun Bawang and Kelabit tribes.
