Coming from Kota Kinabalu, Labuan Island or Brunei? Need a cheap package to get into Mulu National Park. We provide land and river guided transport to get you safely to Camp 5. It is a grueling full day program that starts in the wee hours from Limbang town to Medamit Jetty before getting on to a long boat into Mulu National Park where you will visit the Mentawai Ranger Station then continue to Kuala Terikan, the start of HeadHunters Trail. The service ends when you finish the long hike to Camp 5. Although fast paced, the one day duration program will still provide you a breath taking view of the Mulu jungle on the river and on the hike. This is a cheap and affordable deal to get you into Mulu National Park. No Frills - Basically a backpacker deal!
You may need to spend an extra night in Limbang as your program starts early the next morning. The historic north eastern town of Sarawak has comfortable 2 star quality hotel. You can visit the tamu(local markets), museum, historic landmarks or dine at the local coffeeshops. There is a war memorial built in 1963 to remind of the galiant efforts of the British Royal Marine 42 Commando and the Sarawak police Force, who defended and liberated Limbang during the 1962 Brunei Rebellions..

Limbang > Medamit River > Mentawai River > Kuala Terikan > Camp 5
Day 1
Pick up from Limbang Airport. Transfer to Purnama hotel. Self exploration of Limbang town. (Own Dinner)
Day 2
Own breakfast. 7am transfer from hotel to jetty. Start 3-4 hour boat ride upriver to Kuala Terikan. Travelling time may be shorter depending on the strength of the currents and the depth of the river. Beautiful sceneries align the river with nature sounds, stone outcrops, dangling vines, flowering trees and sudden flights of rare borneo birds as you whizz past their home and feeding ground. Ocassionally, you may have to assist the boat man to push the boat if the water level is too shallow. There will be a break at Mentawai Ranger Station for lunch. After lunch, continue by boat to Kuala Terikan and from there, hike to Camp 5 via Headquarter's Trail (11.3km) - a trail with intermittent plank and rope bridges built by the natives cutting through the dense tropical rainforest, small ponds and rivers. Check in at Camp 5 where the Melinau Paku River awaits for you to take a dip to sooth your tired muscles. Program ends.

Items not mentioned, gratuity tips for the guide, insurance, Camp 5 accommodation, Pinnacles and Mulu accommodation, Mulu Park fees and camera permit.
Tour ends once you reach Camp 5. You will need to self organise the accommodation at Camp 5, Pinnacles tour and boat transfers to Mulu Park. This can be done before your journey or when you arrive at Camp 5. Best before your journey to Malaysia.
What do I need to wear/bring?
Please bring the following in addition to what you would normally pack:
- Waterproof jacket / raincoat/ poncho
- Trekking / off road sports shoes/ adidas kampung
- Leech socks
- Sleeping Bag
- Dry bag to keep any important items dry
- Sandals - strapped preferably
- Sunblock
- Hat
- Insect repellent
- Swimwear - good for hiking then straight into the river!
- Light pullover
- Long sleeved shirt
- Trousers
- Torchlight / headlamp with 2 sets of backup batteries - waterproof and able to take some knocking is best
- Snacks/Drinks - for in-between meals. There are few snack/drink choices at the park and expect higher rates.
Best time to visit
This tour can be run at any time during the year. Do research monsoon periods for heavier rainfall.
Getting Here
Limbang is accessible by air daily from Miri, and Kuching airport. From Kuala Lumpur, you can choose to either fly via Malaysia Airlines (MAS) or AirAsia to Miri and hop on a connecting flight from Miri to Limbang. You also come via road from Brunei or Kota Kinabalu. There is now an express bus service from Kota Kinabalu. which takes approximately 5 hours. You can also arrive by boat from Labuan island.
